Kendall Thiede and Ellee Petersen named Athena Award winners for Cooper, Armstrong high schools

Cooper High School senior Kendall Thiede and Armstrong High School senior Ellee Petersen have won Athena Awards. The awards go to outstanding senior female athletes from each of 50 metropolitan area high schools. Students were nominated by their coaches as outstanding senior female student athletes. They are selected based on excellence in an individual sport or for participation and accomplishment in group sports.
As a 10-time varsity letter winner and eight-time winner of All Conference Awards at Cooper High School, Kendall Thiede has been involved in CI Adapted Soccer, CI Adapted Floor Hockey and CI Adapted Softball. She has been captain five times (Soccer-1, Floor Hockey-3, Softball-1) and earned All Conference Honorable Mention. Kendall was named Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in Soccer. Also, she won MVP Offense and the Sportsmanship Award in Floor Hockey, as well as the CY Young Award (Softball). Kendall plans to attend North Hennepin Community College next fall to complete her general studies before going on to study American Sign Language.
During her time at Armstrong High School, Ellee Petersen has won 13 varsity letters and was involved in Cross Country, Nordic Ski and Track. She is a four-time captain (1-Cross Country, 2-Nordic Ski, 1-Track) and was named All-Conference six times. Ellee is a four-time member of conference championship teams in Nordic Ski, is a two-time member of Section Champs in Nordic Ski. Also, she is a two-time State participant in Nordic Ski (2016 and 2017) and a one-time State Champion in Nordic Ski (2016). Ellee will be attending Concordia University, St. Paul and majoring in Exercise Science and minoring in Spanish.
Kendall and Ellee will be honored during the 45th Annual Minneapolis Athena Award Luncheon May 5 at the Doubletree by Hilton-Bloomington.
