Theresa Praveen, a Secondary Due Process Education Assistant (EA) at Crystal Learning Center, has been named the 2017 Robbinsdale Area Schools Education Assistant of the Year.

"I am both honored and humbled by being elected, and frankly in shock," Praveen said. "Every EA deserves this kind of recognition. The dedication I have seen from EAs across the district in awe-inspiring and is a constant reminder to myself to always put my best foot forward."

Praveen has been with the district since 2012. The former group home manager became an EA in order to continue working with and advocating for the special needs community.

"The best part about being an EA is the sense of community and belonging," she said. "As both a Special Education EA and a Due Process EA, I have always felt supported by my fellow EAs. We take pride in our work and I really do feel like we are one big family. I am blessed to be able to call myself an Education Assistant in the Robbinsdale Area Schools."

Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers Vice President Victoria Arabanos said Praveen is admired by teachers, staff and students. Praveen's smile, Arabanos notes, "is infectious."

"Theresa is a role model for the EA profession, and truly an inspiration for us all," Arabanos said.

This is the seventh year that Robbinsdale Area Schools has participated in the Education Assistant of the Year program, which leads to the state and national Education Support Professional of the Year awards.
