March 13, 2020

Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools families and staff,

We thank our students, families and staff for their understanding, patience and support during this unprecedented time navigating the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. As always, the health and safety of our students, families, staff and community are our top priority.

Governor Walz stated in today's afternoon press conference that Minnesota is moving into a heightened state of readiness, and called for a 'peacetime state of emergency.' With this in mind, classes at Robbinsdale Area Schools are expected to resume on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Our district will follow the Governor's guidance to increase preparation, and our staff will use Monday, March 16, 2020 as a planning day for alternative instructional delivery practices.

Monday, March 16, 2020
Robbinsdale Area Schools will be closed Monday, March 16, 2020. This includes all Adventure Club sites, early childhood and ECFE classes/events, Adult Academic Program classes, and after-school activities as well as practices.

Tuesday, March 17, 2020
School is expected to resume Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Adventure Club and The Source are also expected to be open. Athletic practices and most clubs are expected to continue as scheduled.

Optional, large events are canceled and/or postponed next week
Please note, our district is following community mitigation strategies outlined by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), which we announced in yesterday's (3/12/2020) email. We will not hold large, optional events/gatherings where the practice of social distancing is not possible through Spring Break (for example, next week's music performances/concerts and in-person conferences will be canceled and/or postponed).

Safe and clean schools
To do our part in providing a safe and healthy educational environment, our custodial staff will follow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) cleaning guidelines for schools. Those guidelines include being extra diligent to disinfect all areas, especially commonly touched areas. These areas include: door handles, light switches, drinking fountains, café tabletops, desks shared by students, etc. Cleaning and sanitizing guidelines were reviewed during custodial meetings held on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13. The district also plans to extensively clean every building over spring break, March 23-27, 2020.

Follow CDC recommendations
To reiterate the information we included in yesterday's (3/12/2020) email, the CDC recommends that if you or a family member get sick with fever (100.4°F/38°C or higher), cough or have trouble breathing to seek medical care and call ahead before seeking medical care (call before going to your doctor's office or emergency room). Tell your doctor about your recent travel and your symptoms, and avoid contact with others.

Review your notification settings
We encourage all families to review notification settings in our Infinite Campus parent portal. Infinite Campus controls how you receive important school and district information via email, text, voice call, etc. To make changes to these settings, log into Infinite Campus, select 'User Account' found on the left side menu, then select 'Contact Preferences.' Important: General Notifications is how parents/guardians are informed of school closings, weather updates and other important school information. Please keep this option checked for email, voice and text. Click here for more information about this Parent Portal.

The health, safety and well-being of our students, families, staff and community remain our top priorities. We appreciate your support and partnership.
