2020 Athena Award WinnersRobbinsdale Area Schools is proud to announce two District 281 seniors have been honored with the 2020 Athena Award. Armstrong High School student Sierra Smith and Cooper High School student Evelyn Villalobos have been honored with this award.

The Athena Award recognizes outstanding Senior female athletes from each of the 50 Metropolitan area high schools. Recipients are selected based on excellence in an individual sport or for participation and accomplishment in group sports.

Sierra Smith - Robbinsdale Armstrong High School
Sierra Smith is a high school record holder for four events in swimming, has six varsity letters and has been a conference champion for two years. Sierra has earned 20 medals for career section awards and has been a section record holder for two events, in addition to MVP. She was State Champion in 2019 for both the 100 and 200 Freestyle, as well as the All American in 2019. Sierra was also 2019’s “Swimmer of the Year” Section 5AA. She signed a National Letter of Intent earlier this year for swimming at the University of Missouri.

Evelyn Villalobos - Robbinsdale Cooper High School
Evelyn Villalobos has been recognized by the Minnesota State High School League as a state finalist of the Academics, Arts and Athletics (Triple 'A') Award program. Evelyn will be representing Cooper High School as the overall Triple 'A' winner in Section 6AA. She is Captain for both soccer and Nordic ski, as well as President of the National Honor Society. Evelyn is Class President and participates in the Cooper High School Chamber Singers, Jazz Band and the Bella Voce Choir, in addition to serving as the Drum Major for the marching band. After graduation, Evelyn plans to attend Gustavus Adolphus College and play soccer.
