Relay for Life event flyerEach year, Robbinsdale Area Schools hosts a student-led Relay for Life event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually through Instagram and Facebook live on Friday, May 1 from 6-8 p.m. The event has been organized
by Orla White, event chair from Cooper High school and Abby Blumer, the event chair from Armstrong High School.

The online event will include survivor and caregiver stories, virtual activites and a luminaria ceremony. Robbinsdale Area Schools students take an active role in planning the yearly event, with last year’s event raising over $55,000 for the American Cancer Society. Over $25,000 has been raised so far, with fundraising efforts on pace to meet this year’s goal.

According to the Relay for Life website, fundraising efforts provide resources to cancer patients including rides to chemotherapy, housing near hospitals during and a 24 hour helpline. In addition, these funds support cancer
research grants.

“This event has grown every year in participation and fund-raising, and our students take pride in doing this event every year," said Molly Olson, a Relay for Life Captain and Robbinsdale Area Schools employee. “They work all year on different fund-raising events to help make the end result a success,” she continued.

You can participate in the event on Instagram at @robbinsdalerelay or on Facebook at Robbinsdale Area Schools Relay For Life.
