We are writing to share important updates on our District’s response to ongoing news related to coronavirus (COVID-19). We are following the latest recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the national Centers for Disease Control (CDC). There is no recommendation to close schools in Minnesota at this time. Additionally, Robbinsdale Area Schools has been working collaboratively with principals and staff to refine our e-Learning plan/online learning in order to be ready to implement in the event schools were directed to close by the MDH. Sharon Roe, retired teacher from Robbinsdale Area Schools, recently published her first children’s fantasy book, titled The Key of Idelisia. Ms. Roe began her career with Robbinsdale Area Schools in 1969, at Robbinsdale High School. She taught English and gifted education in both secondary and elementary schools for more than thirty years.

Sierra McCoy, a senior at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, has always been passionate about environmental issues and animal welfare. After seeing coverage of bushfires in Australia and hearing about the devastation from her father, a proud Australian, she knew she had to get involved. She made the decision to start a fundraising campaign and named her project “Quarters for Koalas,” inspired by Pennies for Patients.

Debbie Irrgang and Gerri Fisher, early childhood teachers at New Hope Learning Center, wanted to ensure the learning tools utilized in their classroom also represented their students. As such, they were determined to find a way to make toy-sized hijabs for students to be able to use when playing with dolls.

Ask Jake Breitbach what he has gone through in the last five months and he may reply with this simple statement: "It was kind of miraculous." The senior quarterback at Robbinsdale Armstrong is not embellishing. It is indeed quite astonishing, if not an absolute medical miracle, that he is on the field this fall. He suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in the Falcons' final game of the basketball season, had surgery on March 27 and was told to forget about his final year of high school football. Yet, there he was five weeks after surgery, taking snaps and tossing darts when the Falcons opened the season on Aug. 29 with a 21-0 victory over Spring Lake Park.
