Armstrong and Cooper high schools have been honored with Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) Star of Innovation Awards for their work in the following areas:

- Cooper High School was honored with a silver medal for its new "Lunch and Learn" program, which aims to support students with their learning by providing time each day for either academic or social/emotional support. "Lunch and Learn" gives students the opportunity to schedule activities, meet in groups and get increased academic support. A recent student survey showed 76 percent of Cooper students liked Hawk Lunch and Learn, and CHS Principal Frank Herman said a focus for next year's Lunch and Learn program is on providing more choices for students for the leisure sessions, as well as more targeted academic interventions based on student data.

- Armstrong won a bronze medal for its English Redesign program, which aims to prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) classes. The redesigned English 9/10 classes use AP grading rubrics, and the higher rigor better prepares students for AP-level classes and exams their junior and senior years, AHS Principal David Dahl noted.
