Learn how to make summer count at our upcoming Equity in Education event

Join us virtually from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 24 for the next event in our Equity in Education series as we discuss summer learning loss.

What is it? Does it affect students differently based on their culture or their family’s socio-economic status? What can be done to stop summer learning loss, sometimes known as summer slide?

After two years of pandemic disruption, summer is a time learning can truly come to life.

Find out about summer programming available in our community – and how inexpensive or free activities can strengthen student academic skills.

Panelists include:

  • Anthony Williams, Executive Director of Community Education, Athletics and Activities
  • Jamerson Fields, Freedom School Project Director for Robbinsdale Area Schools 
  • Nickie Hayes, Robbinsdale teacher and parent

The event will be moderated by Leia Ward, Principal of Sonnesyn Elementary

Spring Powwow 5

On April 23, the district co-hosted its first traditional powwow in years at Armstrong High School, attracting more than 300 people. The celebration featured singing and dancing, a feast, and a celebration of Native American student graduates. The powwow also served as the district’s launch pad to American Indian Month, which is recognized in Minnesota annually in May.
