Northport Elementary is a K-5 Turnaround Arts school known for its respectful, nurturing and challenging environment. Teachers, staff and families have high expectations for students in terms of academic achievement and behavior. Northport believes education is a partnership between students, parents and school. We are committed to being a culturally-responsive school and meeting the needs of our school community.
We infuse our science curriculum with STEM for grades 3 through 5. Our classroom teachers co-teach with a certified STEM teacher using inquiry-based project learning, real world video connections, performance tasks and literacy tasks.
Our Turnaround Arts Program uses art as a way to approach teaching and learning. We use the fine and performing arts as primary pathways to learning. The goal of arts integration is to increase knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine and performing arts.
Our Two-Way Spanish Dual-Language Program is open to students at Northport Elementary. In this program, students from different language backgrounds learn together while instruction is systematically delivered in two languages. Students read, write, listen and speak in both languages becoming bilingual, biliterate and bicultural while working toward grade level academic achievement. Dual language offers an opportunity for students to add another language while at the optimal age for language learning.
