Staff Transition Planning Update: What to Expect and What to Know

Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) staff,

As we move into the final months of the school year, we are entering an important and defining moment for our district.

This is a time of transition, and also a time of progress. Together, we have done the hard, thoughtful work to reach this point, and what lies ahead reflects our shared commitment to creating strong, sustainable, and student-centered learning environments for the future.

Over the past several months, our Transitions Logistical Team has been working closely with school and district leaders to prepare for the end of the year and the start of the 2026-27 school year. While some details will continue to be finalized in the weeks ahead, we want to ensure you have a clear understanding of what to expect-and what you need to focus on right now.

This work applies to all staff across our district. Everyone plays a role in ensuring a smooth and successful transition.

What You Should Know Right Now

End-of-year transition work is beginning:
Staff should begin purging and organizing materials in preparation for packing. This applies to all staff roles across the district. Additional building-specific guidance will come from your supervisor.

June 2 will be a dedicated packing and supervisor-directed work day:
This will be a non-student day for all K-8 and Early Learning staff, focused on packing for schools that are closing or being repurposed, and work time for those who are not.

Summer building access will be limited:
Beginning in early June, many buildings will close for moving, cleaning, and construction. You should plan now to take any personal or professional materials you may need over the summer. The district is not responsible for any personal items left in buildings.

More detailed instructions are coming:
In the coming weeks, you will receive building-specific directions, including packing logistics, labeling systems, staging locations, and other important details.

How We’re Supporting You

To help make this process as clear and manageable as possible, we’re creating resources to guide you through each step.

One such document is the General Packing Guidelines for All Staff, which outlines what to take, what to leave, and any required approval processes. This has been emailed to staff on March 27, 2026.

Additional end-of-year information, including checklists and required forms, will be shared in the coming weeks to support you in closing out your classroom or workspace and preparing for next year.

A Final Note

This moment represents more than a transition, it reflects the collective effort, care, and commitment that staff across our district have invested to get us here.

While we know this process brings a range of emotions, it also marks an exciting step forward. The work ahead will help shape new opportunities for our students and stronger learning environments across our schools.

As we move through this process, our focus is not only on preparing spaces, but on supporting the people who bring those spaces to life each day.

Two-way communication is essential during this time. If you have questions, need clarification, or are unsure about next steps, please ask. Reaching out helps us better support you and ensures we can continue moving forward together.

Please continue to connect with your principal or supervisor, who is working closely with our transition teams.

Thank you for the professionalism, collaboration, and commitment you bring to this work.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bob McDowell
Assistant Superintendent
