American Indian Education sparkles in cold weather
The American Indian Education department of Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) presents its annual Winter Storytelling event this Friday, Jan. 17, at FAIR Crystal Middle School, 3915 Adair Avenue North in Crystal.
All are welcome to attend the event, which begins with a meal at 5:30 p.m. Storytelling will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Storytellers are Hope Flanagan, Wakíŋyaŋ LaPointe, and Thorne LaPointe.
Native American Culture and Craft Nights
Open to Rdale’s American Indian students and their families, a series of monthly Culture and Craft Nights takes place at 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays: Jan. 23, Feb. 13, Mar. 13, Apr. 10, and May 15 at Sandburg Middle School, 2400 Sandburg Lane in Golden Valley.
Each Culture and Craft Night will offer:
Drum and Dance Class
Learn how to sing, drum, and/or dance
Sewing Class
Create your own regalia, ribbon skirts, or ribbon shirts
Beading Class
Learn how to bead your own jewelry and items
To ensure finished projects, participants should attend multiple sessions for the sewing and beading class.
