Amy O’Hern Selected as Executive Director of Human Resources for Robbinsdale Area Schools

Robbinsdale Area Schools is excited to announce administrator Amy O’Hern has been selected as the new Executive Director of Human Resources, effective August 31, 2020. A primary role of the district’s human resources director is to ensure highly-qualified teachers in every classroom; Ms. O’Hern’s experience as an educational leader will help to ensure Robbinsdale Area Schools continues a high standard of teaching excellence.

“During this unprecedented time, with a lot of anxiety about the upcoming school year, we need an accomplished, empathetic leader who is familiar with our staff and district,” said Stephanie Burrage, Ed.D., Interim Superintendent of Robbinsdale Area Schools. “Ms. O’Hern is a trusted and respected leader, who leads with compassion and integrity. I’m pleased that this career advancement opportunity allows us to keep an outstanding leader in our district,” Dr. Burrage continued.

As a school leader, Ms. O’Hern has almost a decade of experience in hiring, overseeing and evaluating staff at the elementary and secondary levels. She has demonstrated experience in staff accountability and staff development. She has also served on negotiation teams representing the administration in bargaining unit negotiations. 

“I am excited to continue to work with our staff, students and families in advancing learning through equity at the district level,” Ms. O’Hern said. “Ensuring fairness, equity and inclusion are essential principles of our district’s vision and it begins with our human resources department; our staff are our greatest assets. They need to feel supported and empowered to personalize learning, and ensure positive interactions with all students, families and community members. I am also committed to retaining staff who are members of underrepresented populations, and ensuring our employees fairly represent the communities we serve,” she said.

Ms. O’Hern has been employed with the district since 1998. She served as Principal of Neill Elementary for the past two years, principal of Sandburg Middle School when the school re-opened in 2017 and principal of Meadow Lake Elementary for five years. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Principal as well as holding teaching positions within the district. Ms. O’Hern received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of St. Thomas and her Masters in Education from Saint Mary’s University.
