Armstrong educator named Teacher of the Year by local Air Force chapter

Armstrong High School (AHS) teacher Luke Becker has been selected as Teacher of the Year by the General Rawlings State Chapter of the Air & Space Forces Association (AFA).

Becker teaches agricultural science and technology at AHS and was recently commended for his dedication to his students and the NASA HUNCH program in December 2024. Each year AFA chapters choose a Chapter Teacher of the Year who steers their students toward greatness in STEM fields.

“My program is successful because of the students,” said Becker. “No teacher has ever won an award that their students did not earn. My students take on the challenges I can find for them and I help when obstacles arise and then get out of their way. They are the ones that kick the doors off the hinges when I remove the locks.”

The Air Force Association’s Teacher of the Year program is a partnership between Rolls-Royce and AFA. All Chapter Teachers of the Year are eligible to be selected as an AFA State Teacher of the Year. A National Teacher of the Year is then chosen from state finalists in the summer.

Becker will be honored at the Air Force awards banquet at the University of St. Thomas on Friday, April 4.
