Arts Education Continues in Robbinsdale Area Schools During the Summer Months at Camp Northport

Camp Northport, an Arts Camp experience offered through Robbinsdale Area Schools, was offered to Northport and other district students virtually this year due to COVID-19. Seventy Kindergarten - 5th grade Robbinsdale Area Schools students participated in the program from June 15 -26, 2020.

Now in its fifth year, the two-week-long program offered art activities while supporting literacy skills. Collaboration and conversation with peers reinforced language processes, while hands-on activities maximized student-centered learning. Classes included themes such as acting, playing musical instruments, dancing and science.

Many of the courses taught basic drama skills such as movement, voice and improvisation, while also exposing students to various art mediums. “We were excited to be able to offer students an arts curriculum during the summer months,” said Tamurial Grace, Director of Achievement and Integration/College and Careers. “This program supported our efforts to provide music and art access and education to all students,” Grace continued.

Students were able to choose three courses based on their interests, with courses including Acting Antics, Superhero Slam, Story-gami!, Sports Art and Science, and Art Creations, among others.
