Cooper students experienced African American culture through the arts
Cooper High School recently hosted an artist in residency. The experience was a part of the VocalEssence Witness program, which seeks to "celebrate the artistic contributions of African Americans to our shared American heritage through concerts, recordings, and comprehensive educational programs."
Cooper’s choir and dance programs hosted artist Karla Njewe, who taught students about Gullah Geetchee culture and worked with students to create performances involving poetry, music, and movement over a two-day residency.
Students who participated in the project will be able to attend the VocalEssence concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis this March.
