Cooper’s ‘The Quill’ earns All-State Gold Award and student recognition

Continuing its award-winning legacy, The Quill, the student newspaper of Cooper High School (CHS), has won an All-State Gold Award for the nine issues released during the 2024-25 school year from the Minnesota High School Press Association.

This is the second consecutive year that the staff of The Quill has received this award. In addition to the entire staff’s accomplishment, four individual student staff members also won state awards:

  • Senior Mariah Washington: Second place in the News Photo category, third place in the Sports Story category, and fifth place in the Feature Story category.
  • Senior Rose Vang-Lohnes: Third place in the News Photo category.
  • Senior Tessa Lenoch: Fifth place in the News Story category.
  • 2025 graduate Robin Jarman: Fifth place in the News Photo category.

“I am incredibly proud of The Quill staff members for their accomplishments. It is a privilege to watch them develop their reporting skills each year and take ownership of the newspaper to make it the true voice of Cooper's student body,” said Eric Zuccola, CHS teacher and staff Advisor for The Quill

“The maturity and professionalism of each student is evident in each issue of the paper they produce, and I am glad their high-quality work is being recognized by outside organizations. It will be fun once again this school year to witness the continued growth of the returning staff members and the development of the new members of The Quill team.”
