Dakota and Ojibwe Language Tables resume this week
Dakota and Ojibwe Language Tables resume this week
Last year Rdale hosted an ongoing series of Dakota and Ojibwe Language Tables, a laid-back and fun way to learn more about the two Indigenous languages. The Language Tables were so well received that there will be more of them this year.
Angela Gudahl, a member of the Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe and American Indian Education Coordinator for the district, says the language tables are a space where people can come together, enjoy some food, and build community.
“It’s different from a typical classroom. We’re in a circle, and the goal is to bring the space alive, come together as people, and learn together,” she said. “It’s meant to be a fun, yet relaxed setting.”
The Language Tables will take place on Wednesdays, 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the media center at FAIR School Pilgrim Lane, 3725 Pilgrim Lane North in Plymouth. Language Tables are scheduled for the following dates:
Oct. 30, 2024
Nov. 27, 2024 -- CANCELED
Dec. 18, 2024
Jan. 29, 2025
Feb. 26, 2025
Mar. 26, 2025
Apr. 30, 2025
May 28, 2025
All members of the community – and all levels of language speakers – are welcome to join Rdale American Indian Education for these monthly Dakota and Ojibwe language tables. Dinner will be provided.
“The language tables are really for anyone,” Gudahl said. “Our lakes, cities, roads – so many are Dakota or Ojibwe words, and you’ll start noticing the language all around you.”
