Elementary students demonstrate math skills in Math Masters

Working in groups and individually, fourth and fifth grade students from elementary schools across Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) filled the gym at Meadow Lake Elementary School to test their mathematical skills on March 24 and 25.

They were competing in the annual district-wide competition for Math Masters, an extracurricular activity for older elementary students to promote math skills and motivate students to be more interested in math.

This year, slightly more than 100 fourth graders and a little over 100 fifth graders competed, with students earning awards for individual and team achievements. Students participated in multiple rounds of competition, testing their ability in fast facts and solving word problems.

Math Masters was founded in 1989 in Austin, Minnesota, and has grown to serve over 5,500 students each year at dozens of competitions throughout Minnesota and the surrounding states.
