Leadership Message From Interim Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Burrage

Leadership Message From Interim Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Burrage

Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools families and community,

I’m writing to share some unexpected, but exciting news. I have been offered and accepted a new position with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) as the new Deputy Commissioner of Education.

Incoming MDE Education Commissioner, Dr. Heather Mueller, has appointed me to this new position and the news was made public at 10 a.m. today.

As the Deputy Commissioner, I will have direct oversight of Human Resources, Government Relations and Policy and MDE’s newly created Center for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion.

It goes without saying that this was not an easy decision for me to make. I contemplated if this was the right move for me right now because it meant I would have to leave Robbinsdale Area Schools. Ultimately, I decided to accept this appointment so I can begin to change systems at the state level that will have an impact on the local level.

Please know, I am still one of the biggest champions of District 281 and a proud resident of the City of Robbinsdale. In this new role, I will be able to continue to advocate for our students, families and staff. I know firsthand what educational needs exist and will be sure that I will keep students first to ensure that every child in Minnesota receives a high-quality education -- no matter their race, ethnicity, zip code or socio-economic background. I will continue in my current role through the end of my contract and will help with the transition of the new superintendent.

Sincerely,

Dr. Stephanie Burrage
Interim Superintendent, Robbinsdale Area Schools
