This winter, Robbinsdale Area Schools students in grades 5, 8, 9 and 11 will be participating in the 2025 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS).
The MSS is an anonymous statewide school-based survey that helps the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and other state agencies gain insights into the world of students and their experiences. It’s also one of the longest running youth surveys in the nation.
Each school will communicate with families this winter with details about their specific survey dates and times, which will be sometime between January and March of 2025.
The MSS is voluntary, and families can choose not to have their children participate. When schools reach out about the survey, they will include information on how families can opt out if they do not want their students participating. In addition, families can request a copy of the survey to preview. Information on how to preview the survey will also be provided in the email to families by school administration.
The survey is important. The MSS is the primary source of comprehensive data on youth at the state, county and local level in Minnesota. The survey asks students about how well school is going, their future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, substance use and more. High school students are asked about sexual behavior. This useful information about their thoughts and behaviors helps communities and schools develop effective programs and provide better services.
Again, the survey and its results are totally anonymous. To prevent students or families from being identified, students do not provide their names, student identification numbers, or other personal information.
Thank you for your support and continued partnership.
