Robbinsdale Cooper High School's student newspaper receives award

Robbinsdale Cooper High School's student newspaper, The Quill, earned an International First Place Award from the Quill and Scroll Society for the nine issues published during the 2021-22 school year. In earning the recognition, the student publication earned a superior rating for general practices, an excellent rating for writing and editing, and good ratings for coverage and visuals. “The student journalists of The Quill faced a number of challenges while putting together the nine issues of the newspaper during the 2021-22 school year. Many of them were just returning to the building for the first time following 18 months of distance learning, which required them to go through many academic and personal adjustments. What is more, the staff faced a two-week return to distance learning as they were working on issue five due to rising COVID numbers, which required them to complete that issue of the newspaper in a virtual format,” said Eric Zuccola, Newspaper Advisor.

“Despite these obstacles, the staff members never wavered in their desire to produce a professional news publication. I am pleased to see their hard work recognized and celebrated by The Quill and Scroll Society through this award.”
