Robbinsdale High School earns accreditation and models strategies for others

Armstrong High School (AHS) has been selected as a 2024 Accredited BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) School.

AHS, along with a handful of other schools across the state received the honor due to their expertise, dedication, and commitment to the BARR model. This model helps staff better understand and build on student strengths and support them in the school setting.

As a part of this accreditation, visitors arrived by bus on May 9 to see the BARR model in action and learn more about the AHS program. The guests observed what’s known as “a big block,” where teachers, counselors, and administrators discussed students in need of support and potential ways to assist as a part of the BARR model.

Students and staff then participated in iTime, a series of activities used in classrooms to promote positive self-esteem and coping skills aligned with the BARR model as visitors observed.

The tour ended with a Community Connect meeting, where school support staff came together to discuss how they are going to assist student’s specific needs and develop individualized learning plans.

Along with Armstong, Cooper High School and Northport Elementary also implement the BARR model.
