Robbinsdale Redesign, District’s Family Services Collaborative, Earns State Award

Robbinsdale Redesign, which is the school district’s family service collaborative, recently won a state award for its efforts in preventing child abuse and neglect.

In April, coinciding with national Child Abuse Prevention Month, FamilyWise Services, the state’s lead agency for child abuse prevention, and the home of Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota, named Robbinsdale Redesign as a receipient of a 2021 Pinwheel for Prevention Award winner.

Redesign serves the communities and families who make up Robbinsdale Area Schools. The collaborative coordinates the removal barriers for families and children to access services that promote healthy development and resilient communities.

According FamilyWise Services, the award recognizes innovative and collaborative efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect. All told, Redesign is one of just 18 organizations, collaboratives or programs in the state to earn a Pinwheel award this year.

Melodie Hanson, Redesign program director, said the Robbinsdale collaborative was specifically recognized for its work bringing together multi-disciplinary perspectives for raising awareness of adverse childhood experiences, and the development of a community-driven resilience plan. During the past year, she said, nearly 1,500 people, including district leadership, staff and community members participated in training around neurobiology, epigenetics, resiliency and adverse childhood experiences, and another nine individuals are going through certification to become community trainers.

"This recognition goes to the entire Robbinsdale Area School District, their professional development team and community members for attending training on neurobiology, ACEs and resiliency,” said Hanson. “This level of participation demonstrates the commitment the district and community have to resiliency within schools and community."
