First day of school; 2026-27 calendar

Grades 1-5, 6 and 9

• MONDAY, AUG. 31 — Students in transitional grades 6 and 9 start school a day earlier than their middle and high school peers to give them an opportunity to adjust to their new school. 
  • At middle school, this includes W.E.B. student leaders. 

Grades 10-12

• MONDAY, AUG. 31 — High school students in grades 10 through 12 will have an asynchronous learning day. 

Grades 7-8

• TUESDAY, SEPT. 1 — Most middle school students will begin school on the second day of the academic year. 

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students will not attend regular classes on Monday, Aug. 31, or Tuesday, Sept. 1. Instead, students and their parents/guardians will have a brief, one-on-one welcome meeting with their student's kindergarten teacher. These meetings are a special opportunity to get to know each other, ease first-day nerves, and begin building a strong partnership. Schools will contact families to schedule appointments.

• On Wednesday, Sept. 2, half of our kindergarteners (last names A-L) will have their first day of school.
• On Thursday, Sept. 3, the other half of our kindergarteners (last names M-Z) will have their first day of school.
• All kindergarten students will then be in attendance together beginning Friday, Sept. 4.

Other programs

• Students at Robbinsdale Transition Center (RTC) will begin school on Tuesday, Sept. 1
• Special education center-based students will begin school on the same day as their assigned school and grade level.
• Early Learning classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 8, which follows the first week of school.
